Schiehallion Seed to Tree Project
To celebrate the practice’s 35th anniversary, J&L Gibbons instigated a collaboration with the John Muir Trust, supporting an ambitious long-term woodland creation project on the rugged slopes of Schiehallion, in the Highlands of Perthshire, inviting local schools to be part of the project.
The Seed to Tree project was initiated as Scotland hosted COP 26, highlighting climate change adaptation and the decline of montane scrub habitat. The programme of new tree planting is transforming the landscape, while giving the opportunity to enhance open access, improve biodiversity and create a culture of shared stewardship. The community engagement programme has raised awareness of the rarity of the habitat and inspired local schools to participate. It continues to provide opportunities for direct action, both propagation of local provenance seed and planting, while encouraging natural regeneration. We have visualised the restoration process in 25year snap shots to enable the Trust to promote and expand the impact of the project.
