Islington Green

Islington Green is one of Islington’s most precious green spaces. The long-term aim was to preserve and enhance the heritage of the Green to ensure the long-term health of the fine London Plane trees and to reinforce the historic structure of the garden. A year of collaborative work was progressed to ensure that the proposed memorial was sensitively and appropriately integrated into the new landscape plan. Following on from the completion and success of the Green pedestrianisation of Islington Green (street) was implemented by Islington Highways Department in consultation with J & L Gibbons.
Islington Town Hall Forecourt

Islington Town Hall Forecourt is one Islington’s most important civic spaces. The modest scale of the square belies its role in many significant ceremonial events within the borough, from weddings to the parading of the Premier League trophy. J & L Gibbons were engaged to redesign the forecourt to create a greener and more welcoming public space, including removal of permanent car parking space and providing a permeable shared surface to accommodate temporary events. The material palette was based on the standards set out in the Islington Urban Design Code and the permeable surface was designed to be an exemplar of sustainable urban drainage. J & L Gibbons worked in collaboration with the in-house Public Realm Engineering team for the delivery of the project.
