The terrace wraps around three sides of this 6th floor penthouse. A hierarchy of pavement is created whereby the two more intimate ends of the terrace are decked with cumuru which extends vertically as cladding to the apartment while the central section is paved with Welsh slate. The planting containers were commissioned from artist and product designer Richard Mackness and are finished in Corten steel dust. They are grouped and planted with a hedge of ornamental olive to provide pools of total privacy while framing views of the ridge line of Alexandra Palace and the old Highbury football pitch now transformed into a communal garden. The terrace planting is designed to withstand exposure and to create in time its own high-level landscape of clipped undulations.
